Posted in 9TH CHAPTER: GENERAL on October 8, 2011 by myyellowkitchen

as i am 6 cakes shy from the completion of hector’s take on ROSE’S heavenly CAKES (baking all the recipes from the book), i stomped into these old video files just prior setting up the kitchen in my new apartment, back in fall 2008.

hector’s take project started as soon as i got my mixer plugged:

and one of the first things to do was the  remake a Baked Hawaii from the cake bible:

and then slice prosciutto for the Prosciutto Ring from the bread bible:

Center Pull Paper Towels – a must take

Posted in 9TH CHAPTER: GENERAL on March 11, 2010 by myyellowkitchen

how to stop worrying about running out of kitchen paper towels?  get one of these restaurant or office supply paper rolls that are designed for centerpull dispensers.  these rolls are inexpensive, pack more sheets than any other formats.  gone will be the days of buying paper towels so often.

centerpull paper rolls are fairly soft, ultra absorbent, and reusable.  centerpull rolls are softer than traditional dispenser rolls, otherwise, the sheets won’t pull nicely from the center coil.  most are pre-perforated each 12 inches or so.  a dispenser isn’t necessary:  place the roll on the counter and pull upwards, or place on wire shelving and pull from under; wrap the outside of the roll with plastic wrap to keep things tidy.

We have reached the magical number of 11,111 hits!

Tsunami may hit Hawaii 4 hours

Posted in 9TH CHAPTER: GENERAL on February 27, 2010 by myyellowkitchen

special announcement to all my fellow islanders, there is plenty food in my place, so stop by for supper shall the need arises.  please shower and have breakfast before 11 am!

all coastlines has been evacuated, radio and sirens did a good job alerting everyone.  hotels are built strong and guests are asked to move up to floors higher than 3rd floor.  most events canceled.  stay home everyone.

we won’t know till about 3 hours from now exactly how tall the tsunami will be.  but based on the magnitude of Chile’s earthquake, it can be bad.  but again, waves are known to just calm down last minute.

will keep my computer off, to save battery.  no baking today.

walked and bathed, stock pots filled with water, family phoned and safe.  now chilling and waiting for the zero hour.  yikes.

boats are heading out to the safer deeper seas, airport activity in honolulu remains normal, traffic is another story.

i think we are GOOD, everyone in Hawaii is good.  the water receded but never came back which would be the tsunami.  what a scary thought.  60 minutes past the official ETA, and we are ok.  the worse will be the grocery stores, now everyone will be returning the stuff they bought early today.

boats out in the ocean, looks like a pool of fleas!  an helicopter on my downstairs high school parking lot.  and zero traffic.  time to water my plants with all the water i accumulated on my le creuset stock pots.

just trying to make fun out of this.  it really wasn’t.

here is a link where you can see how much the ocean receded.  so glad, the water didn’t come back strong at all, that would have been a tsunami!  photos taken by my friends at coffessofhawaii.com http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/album.php?aid=160175&id=98614377154&ref=nf

Command Hook it!!! a fabulous product from 3M

Posted in 9TH CHAPTER: GENERAL on December 3, 2009 by myyellowkitchen

as you know, i moved to this tiny apartment in August 2008, but tiny is good because now everything is within arms reach and on sight!  i haven’t done any mayor construction yet, on the plan is to resurface my concrete floors (it is bare concrete now), repaint the walls yellow, and change the kitchen cabinets.  there is no sofa, no tv, and no big beds.  but there is lots of shelving, mixers, and refrigerators!

for now, i am using the old original owner kitchen cabinets.  i think before rushing to replace them, i should first have a feel how i actually use the space.  i have command hooked the back of all the cabinets doors!  when i need to find something, all i need is open the cabinet doors.  all my tools and gadgets are easy reach.  here you go, the beginning of the new MY YELLOW KITCHEN, tell me how many things you see here, for example:  see if you can spot my newest My Weigh pocket scale:
