ROSE’S heavenly CAKES: Gateau Breton (page 69). my month long preparation for the mango festival culminated with a day long trip visiting tropical fruit trees with Ken Love, executive director for the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Association.
we baked 6 tiers of Gateau Breton, and topped each tier with a different fruit jam. then we topped the cakes with 20 lbs of mango roses and a glazing with local citrus jelly.
here is my farm tour, you may need to use google photo to identify the names of each fruit!
Is that a Jackfruit in one of the pictures?
S, good job, yes jackfruit. and i think the Guinness record of the world’s largest is one grown in Hawaii!
Is it? Then we are close competitors..we have massive ones in and around here too…and ooh, the flavor and smoothness of a particular variety is just mind blowing! Some of them have nectar oozing out of them too!
S, yummy!
